{"id":9759,"date":"2021-06-26T12:00:06","date_gmt":"2021-06-26T10:00:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.anticabarbieriacolla.com\/?p=9759"},"modified":"2021-06-28T10:59:39","modified_gmt":"2021-06-28T08:59:39","slug":"use-and-brief-history-of-the-electric-razor","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.anticabarbieriacolla.com\/en\/use-and-brief-history-of-the-electric-razor\/","title":{"rendered":"Use and brief history of the electric razor"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\">After talking about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.anticabarbieriacolla.com\/en\/its-majesty-the-straight-razor\/\">the straight razor<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.anticabarbieriacolla.com\/en\/il-rasoio-di-sicurezza\/\">the safety one<\/a>, an article dedicated to the <b>electric razor <\/b>could not be missing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Electric razors have always been essentially of two types:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"p1\"><b>foil razors<\/b>;<\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\"><b>rotating razors<\/b>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"p1\">Foil razors are suitable for those<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"p1\">having a <b>sensitive skin<\/b>;<\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\">having relatively <b>thin<\/b> <b>hairs<\/b>;<\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\">preferring a <b>close<\/b> and <b>daily shave.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"p1\">Rotating razors are ideal for those<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>having <b>normal<\/b> to <b>hard<\/b> skin;<\/li>\n<li>having a <b>full beard<\/b> with <b>thick<\/b>, <b>long<\/b> <b>hairs<\/b> growing in <b>different directions<\/b>;<\/li>\n<li>who don&#8217;t shave every day.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Both types have a common ancestor: the father of the electric razor was in fact J<b>acob Schick<\/b>, a former colonel in the US army.\u00a0 In the early 1910s, while recovering from an injury suffered during a gold exploration, he found it difficult to shave and began to think of a razor with a shaving head driven by a flexible cable and powered by an external motor. This prototype, however, was far from practical and was rejected by manufacturers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">After the First World War which forced him to interrupt his project, Schick progressively improved his original idea and in 1928 he created the first real electric razor, then patented in 1931, which enjoyed great commercial success: in just under a decade he arrived to sell about 1.5 million pieces.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">However, a series of technological innovations led in a short time to overcome Schick&#8217;s invention, based on blades that moved back and forth, as in a normal hair clipper.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Shortly after the <strong>Remington Rand Corporation<\/strong> introduced the first foil razor, which used oscillating blades covered by a thin layer of metal and guaranteed greater comfort; the design principle of today&#8217;s foil razors has remained the same.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Among the leading manufacturers of foil razors today are the German company <b>Braun<\/b>, founded in Frankfurt in 1921 by Max Braun, and the Japanese <b>Panasonic<\/b>, born in Osaka in 1918 by the will of Konosuke Matsushita.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_9762\" style=\"width: 1010px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-9762\" class=\"size-full wp-image-9762\" src=\"https:\/\/www.anticabarbieriacolla.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/lamella.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1000\" height=\"667\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.anticabarbieriacolla.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/lamella.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/www.anticabarbieriacolla.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/lamella-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.anticabarbieriacolla.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/lamella-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.anticabarbieriacolla.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/lamella-600x400.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-9762\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Vintage foil razor<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">In 1939, <strong>Philips<\/strong> created the rotating razor, equipped with a head with an internal rotating blade that shaved the hairs captured by a fixed external protection.
