Men’s cologne: how to choose your perfume

To buy for yourself or to give as a gift to a loved one, men’s cologne contributes greatly to defining individual style and enhancing personality.

It is a very versatile product that can be used at any season of the year, but finding your way around the various types of perfumes and fragrances can be difficult, especially if you are not very experienced in the subject.

Cologne, eau de toilette or eau de parfum?

Cologne, eau de toilette or eau de parfum are not synonymous: although they share some fundamental aspects, being perfumed solutions based on alcohol, water and essential oils, the three products are characterised by some fundamental differences:

  • cologne has a concentration of essential oils ranging from 1 to 3%, proving to be light, delicate and tending to evaporate fairly quickly in all seasons;
  • the eau de toilette has a higher concentration of essential oils than cologne, varying between 4 and 7% and ensuring a longer duration;
  • the eau de parfum, finally, thanks to the percentage of essential oils that generally ranges from 8 to 14% has an intensity and persistence that is still decidedly superior to the other solutions.

Why use cologne and how to choose it

Cologne, therefore, is characterised by a lighter and more delicate formulation than real perfumes, a quality that allows it to be used with greater freedom.

Being discreet and unobtrusive, in fact, it is perfect to give as a gift and to use without fear of exaggerating with the quantity, choosing a fragrance that goes well with personal preferences: from the more fruity fragrances, in fact, one passes to more musky, woody, floral and spicy notes.
