March 19th in Italy is Father’s Day.

I am not sure whether this occasion is celebrated on the same day all over the world, but here in Italy Father’s Day has an even more particular meaning, as it coincides with the feast dedicated to Saint Joseph.

Beyond being a celebration shared throughout the country, for me this date has always been a family ritual as well. Every March 19th, it was my habit to go to my father Franco’s home early in the morning and wake him with one of his favorite treats: zeppole di San Giuseppe, the pastries that, on this very day, fill bakeries and pastry shops all over Milan.

We used to have a long breakfast together, and for Franco that often became the moment to retrace his story and the story of his profession.

We would begin with the quality of the custard cream, and in an instant his pride in the intuition behind the Egg & Rum Shampoo would resurface — born from the idea that egg was a true remedy for hair.
